Color / Effect:
Sanguine – a warm brown–terracotta tone, often used in portrait drawing, figure studies, and sketches as a middle tone between black and white.

Usage:
This type of chalk is ideal for drawing on lighter or neutral backgrounds, adding subtle warm tonal variations and mid-shadows before moving into deeper charcoal blacks or white highlights.

Compatibility with holders:
Since the core diameter is 5.6 mm, it can be used with mechanical holders or lead holders of the same size.

Mechanical / Physical properties:
Sanguine chalk is a medium-hard type of chalk (not as fragile as the softest chalks, but not as “dry” as pure charcoal).
Because of its pigment composition, the stroke can appear slightly grainy on rougher paper.
It can be blended or softened with stumps, erasers, or fingers to achieve smooth transitions.
Like other chalks, it may smudge, so using a fixative is recommended if the artwork needs to be preserved.
